The success of our first $250,000 match inspired a few donors to fund a NEW $250,000 matching gift opportunity.  All gifts will be matched dollar for dollar up to $250,000.  Thank you for helping us to take full advantage of this matching gift opportunity.  Pledges may be paid over 3 years.

We are grateful to Sara Carter Spencer and her mother, Cissy Parham for sharing their story of how mental illness has impacted their family.  They are continuing the conversation Mike Weaver started years ago and Mary Gay and Don Brady added to recently.  Open conversations promote healing and encourage people to seek help, just like someone would for any health issue.   Let’s keep the conversation rolling.

We invite you to join Visionaries, Mary Gay and Don Brady, as we work toward a brighter future for all those affected by mental illness, by participating in the first ever comprehensive campaign for Sanctuary House. The success of the campaign will ensure Sanctuary House facilities become debt-free, as well as funding an appropriate maintenance and operational reserve. Sanctuary House now provides Residential Housing in addition to our many supportive services that assist adults with serious mental illness in achieving and sustaining satisfying, meaningful roles and lives in our community.

Young or old, rich or poor, mental illness does not discriminate.

As Mary Gay and Don Brady and their family know all too well, mental illness is a complicated reality layered with misunderstanding, family upheaval and deep emotional pain. After Don’s own brother Rich faced — and lost — a lifelong struggle with Bipolar disorder, Don and Mary Gay realized they needed to do more to support the thousands of other families struggling right here in Greensboro.

Meet Our Visionaries

Don and Mary Gay joined other visionaries, including founding families and Sanctuary House to raise public awareness about mental health needs, and to invest in projects and programs that support families in need.

One such project is the newly acquired residential community Hillcrest House, designed to support clients as they move beyond their diagnosis of mental illness, advancing them from patienthood to personhood.

Exciting Naming Opportunities exist for both Sanctuary House and our new Residential Housing property, Hillcrest House.

Hillcrest House enables adults to live a more independent life in a group environment that reduces isolation and increases accountability. Currently, five of the residents benefit from day programs and employment programs at Sanctuary House. This enables us to bridge the service gap required to support adults experiencing severe mental illness every single day.
