Sanctuary House is excited to announce the appointment of Caroline Smythe as our new Family Advocate. Caroline brings a deep personal connection to Sanctuary House, having begun her journey with us as a high school volunteer and later working as a Direct Care Technician at Hillcrest House while completing her degree in psychology from Appalachian State University. Her passion for mental health and her commitment to the Greensboro community make her the perfect fit for this important role.
The Family Advocacy Program is a brand-new initiative at Sanctuary House, created in response to the growing challenges families face when navigating the complexities of the mental health system. This program is specifically designed to support caregivers of adults living with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) by helping them find essential resources and create future care plans. Caroline will work closely with families to provide guidance, support, and direct connections to community services.
Caroline is enthusiastic about the potential impact of the program in Guilford County. “As a lifelong resident of Greensboro, I am deeply invested in this community and have personal experience with the overwhelming process of supporting a loved one with mental illness,” said Caroline. “In this position, I look forward to building meaningful relationships with families and connecting them with the critical supports they need.”
